Question Frigidaire side by side by getting hot with freezer being to warm
Brand: Frigidaire
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have an upright side by side fridgidaire with a water dispensor (not being used or hooked up) I noticed the other day the freezer part was not getting cold enough. And that is on the highest setting. I do have a lot of food in there.

But today I noticed that the piece that runs between the 2 doors which the doors close on, is hot. Thus making the door seals hot. Im hoping someone can tell me what is going on here and what to do next.

Here is a link that should help
Take a look at #18, also the rest makes interesting reading.
refrigerator problems and solutions, not cold enough, frost free repair information

Quite often if the freezer is not cold enough it is a defrost problem
The cooling coils get filled with ice so you do not get proper cold air circulation
Remove the covers from the coils and take a look at them.

To get further help you should include the Model Number

The whole freezer section is not very cold. Everything is slowly thawing. The centre part where the doors close on only gets real hot when its running.

The model number is GLRs234ZA.

How do I check the coils? Take all the food out of that side and I see some bolts. Do I take those apart? I got my blowdryer ready if they are frozen...

Compressor is fine. Checked it out. It was filthy back there. But I vacuumed and cleaned it up.

Yes it could be the condenser fan which is underneath with the compressor and should be running when the compressor is. If the fan is not blowing the hot air off the condenser then the space between the freezer and fridge will be warmer because it has more heat than normal in the line going to the evaporator in the freezer. If the condenser fan isn't running you can temp. use a small floor fan blowing on the back to do the job until you replace the fan. Check fan here- Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Test the Condensor Fan - ACME HOW TO.com
The coil cover is held on by small screws that you take of to remove and check for ice.

The condensor fan seems to be working. I turned the fridge back on after cleaning it and it went whirring away. I twirled it when it wasnt on and it went aruond smoothly too. I am getting upset.

I cant check. I can see coils at the bottom of the side by freezer in the back. They are clear. I dont see how I can take off the back without getting special tools. The bolts look like they are almost sautered on.

Since I cleaned up the coils underneath the fridge the centre part in the front where the doors close is not as hot. Its more of a very warm stage but not the way it was.

I dont know if my fridge is a frost free fridge or not either.

Your coil cover is part 17 on this diagram. Whirlpool Appliance ksbp25fkss01 Parts List

Yours is frost free meaning that you have a defrost system which periodically melts the frost on the evaporator coils.

Everything is working fine now.

How old is my fridge anyway? I cant seem to find anything about it. I do know that the gallery editions seem to have consistent issues.
