Default Frigidaire not able to make ice
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRS26ZRFW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello, please help...

I have a Frigidaire model FRS26ZRFW. I am able to get some water out of the dispenser but i am unable to make any ice. I have looked in the back and have taken a few things apart. It looks like I have TWO set of valves. One set in the bottom left and the other at the bottom right? I think I have a sticky valve in one of these. How do I tell which one is bad? Is there a way to move the wires around to try to get water to the ice maker? I have a multimeter to test if needed. I am just stumped at the moment. I have open the valves and tried to clean them. As I said, I may have a stikcy valve and these things are not cheap to replace.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Charles

the system has two dual valves. 1 for water, 1 for ice maker. valve 1 feeds valve 2 via water filter.

Here's a place to check your water inlet valves. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How to Check the Water Inlet Valve - ACME HOW TO.com

Woodchuck,

So which one is for the ice maker? the first valve? or the second? I am not sure I understand your answer. I got the sense the valve had a water and ice solenoid for both sets. IS that not correct? I would appreciate a little more information from you. Thank you again for helping me.

The valve with the external water source line coming in sends the water to the water filter and on to the other valve where it's sent to ice maker and dispenser.

Ok.. so I can assume the first valve is working ok since I am able to get water out of the water dispenser. So I need to switch the lines at the valves on the left side from what you are telling me (Second Valve) to use the dispenser to try to get the water to show up at the ice maker? There are two set of wires to each solenoid. How do i switch them? or do i need to actually move the water lines?

Thank you for your help.

charles.

Woodchuck,

I also noticed the amount of water coming out of the water dispenser is a lot slower than normal. It fills the cup but not as fast as it use to. I have since replaced the water filter thinking it might be clogged as a first step. Again is this due to a stick valve in that second unit?

Thank you. Charles

There should be a wire strainer before the first valve. It could be partially stopped up with sediment etc. Clean it out. You can disconnect the water line coming out of the valve and try dispenser to flush out the line. If they're the same size you can switch the lines or the wires, what ever is easiest.

You can tell if the valve is opening and closing by watching the water run out when you depress the water dispenser switch.

Thanks. I have cleanded this screen.. nothing really in there to stop the water flow. so If i switch the wires and get water to the ice maker, I can assume that this "first" valve is good... Do i perform the second test on the second valve?

Woodchuck, does both the ice maker and water filter draw thru the water filter?

I think this is correct. In other words, the line from the first valve does not go directly to the ice maker. I think all the water comes from the filter water tank.

Can you confirm on the second test? THank you for helping me.

Charles

All the water goes through the filter and check the second valve like you do the first.

have been researching quiet a bit on these valves. it looks like the the rubber seals get sticky. when i open these up.. it looks like they are a little sticky.

would you consider these a maintenance item? I have a feeling that I am having issues on both of these at different times. Do you know if they sell a kit to replace the rubber seals? I will perform the test tonight on both valves and report back on my results..

Thanks again.. Charles
