Default Frig. working part of the time
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSS25LGMBBB
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Ge frig.works fine for a few days then I notice the freezer section getting too warm. The condenser fan is running but I have no power going to the compressor when I check it at the relay on the compressor. I wait for a couple hrs to see if it is in defrost. I unplug it then plug it back up and the compressor starts then it is fine for several days then I notice the same problem again. I am a AC repair man but I have little experience in the new fridges. Lots have changed since I went to tech school.Appliances have changed since then.thanks for your help.

Make sure your freezer fan is running. You have the infamous "mother" board in the back of fridge. Have to replace them a lot. Will get repair aid for you tomorrow.

Go to www.applianceguru.com/forum1/3075.html You will find a complete schematic of this. Measure the voltage to the evaporator motor, it may be bad or intermittant.
Also check the evaporator fan motor for bearing problems. Also check all thermistors per the schematic.
I usually replace the mother board and evaporator fan on these.

Thanks for your help.I have my thermometer leads in the freezer and refigerator compartment and it is working fine at the moment. I guess my question is will the fan motor cause no power at the compressor or make it stay in defrost or is it the board. I don't know how to check a thermistor , ohm it?

If your evaporator fan is working ok, it's probably the mother board acting up or a bad thermistor. Just rmove power and check resistance of all of them at the proper connector shown on the schematic.

Ok it did it again!! I took the covers off and ckecked the power to the compressor and found none. Started looking at the board and took a small screwdriver and tapped one of the relays on the board and seen a small blue spark behind the board and the compressor came on.So I think it is the board like you said. What do you think ? Thanks again.

Wow, KEEP that mother board. Turn power off and remove board. You will find a bad solder joint at the relay. Just solder it and you are ready for normal performance. This IS your lucky day!!!!! Please post results.

Ok I have soldered it and put it back in and so far it is working.Still I think I am going to get a new board because I am away for long periods of time and I would loose much more in food.I have found one for 86.00 so it is on order.I want to thank you again for your help and I will keep you posted on how things go.You have been very helpful.
