Red face Frig runs continuously , coils freezing up
Brand: Amana
Model Number: ABB222ZDEW
Age: 1 - 4 years

The frig runs continuously. I can't turn it off with the controller in the frig. I turn the setting all the way down until it shows a dash(-) but it keeps on running. I have to physically unplug the frig to get it to shut off. About every two weeks the evap coils in the bottom freezer totally freeze up and block the airflow to the frig above and the the frig wont get cold. I have been having to unplug the frig, remove the panel inside to freezer and defrost the coils every 2 weeks or so to keep the frig cold. I believe the problem stems from the fact that the frig runs nonstop but does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it. Thanks.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Your defrost timing is controlled by your control board. If heater and thermostat are ok it's the control board.

It's probably running all the time because it can't get cold enough with the ice blocking the air.

update. the main problem is the frig won't shut off. Even when I turn the temp control to zero. Does this mean my control board is bad? How do I check it? It runs 24/7 even after i have defrosted the coils.
