Default Frig never shuts off
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.8566712
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a Kenmore side by side 26 porcelan plus model 106.8566712. I think it needs a new t.stat, what do you think, here is what it is doing. The compressor runs all the time, never shuts off. I can reach inside and turn the t.stat to a smaller number so the inside temp will be higher and it will shut off untill it warms up and the t.stat calls for cooling again and then it never shuts off. It will keep the box at 38 to 40 deg. F.
could it be that the contacts on the t.stat have pitted over the years and when it calls for cooling they stick together and can not open when the box gets cooled down ?
What do you think ?
Thank you very much for all your help

Yes that does sound like the thermostat has worn out.

Here is the part number for your thermostat PS358537.

Here is a list of parts for your fridge model 106.8566712.

Before ordering parts, I would check the frost pattern in the freezer. Post results.

Thank you, to both of you so far for your help with my problem. Now why didn't I think to check the frost line, it could be low in refrigerant. If it is that is a job for some one else. I did do this, while it was running I put my hand in the condenser coils and they did not seam to hot

Default frost line

I have not looked at the frost line...yet. It looks like I just remove the 3 lower shelves and them remove 4 screws to get the back off, is that right? Anything else i should know before I take it apart ?

Does anyone know how to tell hoe old this frig is ?
THANKS !

If you call Sears Parts and Service they should be able to tell you the age.
