Default Frig/Freezer cooling problems
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PSS25NGMA
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi,

I have a seven year old GE Profile Arctica side by side frig that hasn't been cooling properly - both freezer and fridge. It started last Dec - the freezer went up into the 40's and the fridge even hotter. I ran the diagnostics - everything check out ok. I cleaned the jelly roll condenser (the one that the manuals says doesn't need cleaning), it was pretty dirty. I notice that the condenser fan was weak - I could easily stop it with my finger. I let it run over night and it went back down to normal temp. BTW - the problem started shortly after a power failure. I unplugged it to "reboot" - just in case.

It started acting up again a couple of days ago. I unplugged it again for a few minutes to see if it resets - BTW it appears we had another power failure the day before. The temp started to go down so I pushed the unit back into place. The next morning it was running hot again. I pulled the unit out from the wall and got side tracked - when I returned the temp started going down again. I left it out, away from the wall, and the temps been normal for a day and a half.

I was going to replace the condenser fan but was wondering if the problem could actually be the main board since it probably controls the fan. Should I check the evaporator? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

It is most like the mother board that is failing.

The mother board controls the entire operation of the fridge.

Here is link to your fridge model PSS25NGMA.

For a detailed parts list you will need the last two digit of your model number.

Since I already have the fan motor I'll start with that

If that doesn't work I'll order the mother board. Is there any way I could check the feed to the motor?

You would need a meter to check the voltage at the motor leads.
