Default Fridge warm, freezer super cold
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 10657943700
Age: Less than 1 year

Not touching this myself as its in warranty. But the Sear tech came today and told there was an issue with the "in cabinet fan" design that blows air from freezer to fridge on these models. Said the one fitted in the factory was to small and also he was adding a "Bi-metal" thermostat as well. He didn't have the "bi-metal' so he ordered that and will be back on Thursday to fit both. Told me a 24hour defrost would clear out the frost build up in the air ducts / vents and the fri dge would work for about two months before it froze up again. This ties in with what happened as the Fridge/freezer is only two months old and worked fine until about a week ago.

He showed me that on the fridge side there is a louvered vent on the lower right side, it will pop off, and if you find frost build up behind it that's an indication of the issue. I also noticed the Smaller louver vent at the very top right rear side had a lump of ice coming out of the bottom.

Lets see what happens on Thursday?

That must be a side by side. Let me ask you a couple of questions. Do you have a large family? and do the people in the family constantly go in and out of the freezer, and refrigerator. That product freezes up due to excessive amount of opening and closing of the doors. Every time I wittnessed that problem, there was a large family involved. Get back to me on my web site, and let me know what you found. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Well the the part did not come on time. And to cut a long story short the Tech came the following week and fitted the parts (fan & bimetal) when I was traveling. So I did not see the parts he changed, although my wife told me he accessed the rear of the fridge. I did de-frost the fridge about 10 days before he came and it started working normally.

No we don't have large family. But we did have cold snap at the time, and the temperature in the house went down to from a normal of about 78 deg F to about 59 deg F.

The tech said the issue kick in after about 2 months, which ties in with the date we had the problem.

Just hope the parts he changed or added help resolve the issue.
