Default Fridge runs more often w/ odd sound
Brand: General Electric
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a GE fridge with upper fridge and lower drawer freezer. Not sure of model (I'm at work). My problem is that the unit seems to be running a lot more frequently lately and the sounds the motor is making sounds 'off'. It's a little rattly, but definitely doesn't sound right.

My main questions are:

Any ideas of possible causes and if any related repairs are DIY?
Although pretty handy, unless it's pretty basic I plan to use a pro to service but I wanted to get a better understanding of what it might be, how much it might (should?) cost, etc so I can get the unit fixed back up and working without paying too much.

I know there is not a ton of technical info to go on, but I appreciate any guidance folks can provide.

Cheers

If it's the compressor making the noise, just wait for it to quit altogether.

If it's the condenser fan, the blades could be hitting the shroud or a mouse etc. Or the motor could be worn out.

Pull it out form the wall and remove the cardboard cover to see which the noise is coming from.

If it's coming from inside the freezer (the evaporator fan) it could be ice buildup on it or fan hitting something or the fan motor worn out.
