Default Fridge not cooling
Brand: Other
Model Number: DFF1144
Age: 1 - 4 years

We have a used Danby fridge. I think the model # is as above. Its the fridge/freezer model with a pop dispenser in the door. It was working excellently until a week or so ago, when the fridge portion stopped working. The motor is still running fine and everything in the back appears normal. There's no apparent build up anywhere. The freezer is about 50 degs F and still freezing food. I read another person's question about his fridge not working and am also trying to clear vents to see if that's the problem. If you have any other insight, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Pete

Sorry but the freezer cannot be at 50 F and still freeze food

Are you sure you were not in a defrost cycle when you measured the temperature
Normally the freezer fan will shut off during a defrost

I used one of those laser thermometers for a quick measure. It could have been off.

I tried cleaning the vents (which it did need) but that didn't work. It now appears the fan isn't working. I don't recall that it was working before the defrost, and it didn't come back on afterwards. So, do you think it could be as simple as replacing the fan? If so, I'll look for a place to buy parts.

Could be just the fan

Are you sure the freezer section is operating correctly actually cooling
Depending how much stuff you have in the freezer, it can take quite a while to change temperature
Could be you are stuck in a defrost cycle
The fan will be off, once the fins are clear of ice there is a thermal cutout which stops further heating of the defrost element and the compressor will be off.

Before replacing the fan I would check it to be sure it is getting juice
If you do not have one, go and buy a volt/ohm meter
These days you can get a digital one for under $20.00. You do not need anything fancy. It is nice to have leads which are a couple feet long. If it saves you from replacing one part needlessly, you have paid for it.
