Default Fridge just stopped
Brand: Amana
Model Number: TZ21Q2L
Age: More than 10 years

Fridge just stopped working but freezer continues to work. There is power to the lights but compressor is not running nor is the lower fan.

I tried turning the one red knob I found at the front near the bottom but I got no results.

Was the red button in a white box?

no it was a black box. I think it is a defroster clock?

Conflicting statements!! If compressor is not running, check the cold control and defrost timer for burnt wires. Verify no voltage to the compressor. Impossible for the freezer to be ok if compressor not running.

based on additional research I did a manual defrost by taking off the interior freezer panel and using a hair dryer to melt the ice. As I understand it this may work for a week or so until a defrost switch/motor is replaced along with a new timer/clock?

Take the freezer panel back off and locate the little round thing clipped to the evaporator coil, remove and strip isulation from wires and short them. Now turn defrost timer till compressor stopps running, your heater should now work. If so, replace defrost thermostat, if not, replace defrost heater.
