Question Fridge/Freezer won't cool, compresser won't start
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PTS25LBMARWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Freezer just randomly thawedone day and we realized that the fridge was room temperatue as well. The compression pump won't turn on, not even for a second. It shows no life. The fans all seem to be working.

Fridge lights are broken or missing. Light works in the freezer, but shuts off after the door is closed.

There is proper air flow from the freezer to the fridge.

Fuse appears to be intact on the motherboard.

I found what appeared to be some kind of a clog in the drain, but it didn't prevent anything from draining when the freezer/fridge thawed. I cleaned it out as best I could.

The unit is only a few years old. It's like a 2000 or 2001 model, but we only got it like 4years ago. It was new, but it had been mishandled, so the front was scraped and we got it for a cut price.

Anyone have any clues as to how to save this baby? Any Ideas as to the nature of this bug?

You may just have a blown start relay on the ccompressor. Check to see if the compressor is getting voltage,if so remove the cover and inside remove the PTR relay check it for continuity. It will rattle a bit if shaken=bad relay. Please post results.

Ck on the inside of the door or on the inside wall of the fridge on the side the icemaker is on. Thats where mine was. then go to Appliance Parts From PartSelect | Repair Parts For Major Appliances and see what is available there.

OK, bought a new relay, put it in, nothing changed. The system still won't work. Is it time to through in the towel and get a repairman, or is that also a waste?

The orders I have been given on this instigate that this needs to be done quickly, what would be the most likely cause of this issue and is there a quick fix for it?

With a new relay it should try to start. If it tries and draws high current, then shuts down, you have a bad compressor. Did you check for volage to the compressor??

This is the same exact problem I have with same model Refrigerator. Is the problem more likely to be the motherboard, as opposed the compressor?

ok the relay very rarely goes bad on this model.you will need a set of jumper clips.take off the cover to the motherboard.at one corner, there will be a single 3 wire harness.look at the board.one will say line, one will say defrost and the last will say comp.jump the line to the comp.do this with it unplugged and plug in after the jumper is in place.it should start right up.if so,replace the mainboard.also ge has changed the defrost points on this board to take care of some other issues with frost build up in the freezer.read the directions to see if any jumpers need to be cut for your model.
