Default Fridge & Freezer both not cold enough
Brand: Amana
Model Number: ARB2259CB
Age: 5 - 10 years

I've tested the defrost timer and it's not defrosting because during the 20 min or so when it is sopposed to be melting the ice, nothing melted, and the blower starts blowing the cool air again. I am pretty sure it is the defrost heater in the freezer that needs to be replaced.
Could this one problem also be causing the fridge not to work either? The fridge is maintaining about 48 degrees and is set on the coldest setting, the freezer isn't freezing anything.
Thx!

Most common failure is defrost thermostat. Pull freezer back panel and defrost all the coils. Check heater for continuity, if ok you have a bad defrost thermostat.

After defrost the heater seemed to be okay, so I repalced the defrost thermostat. It was fine for a week or so until frost built up in the freezer again. Should I go ahead and replace the defrost heater anyways or could the cause be something else?
Thx again.

Most probable failure is now the defrost timer. Go to applianceselect to locate the timer and turn it to defrost. Your heater should heat up, if so, replace the defrost timer.

I have seen quite a few posts on the fridge not being cold enough. We recently bought a fridge and it was not cold enough... it was not blocked or frozen in anyway. We just got a replacement fridge and the delivery guy mentioned that it could be related to our electrical outlet.

I know that our outlet is giving about 113 volts (I am in the US) and I would assume that is enough - can anyone verify?

Did you lay it down during the move. If so, did you wait for several hours till you plugged it in.

I have now replaced the defrost heater, defrost timer & the freezer thermostat, and it is still freezing over! What do I try next?
Connected to the defrost heater is a small knob with a series of numbers on it '37TF31 31442 126012-08, L45-30F J0223'. What is this part, and could it be the culprit?
Thanks again!

That is the defrost thermostat! And it costs $15, I just ordered one.

I have the same frost build-up problem. My thermostat looks like it popped open. My heating element has about 30 Ohms over it, which I think is fine.
