I have a side by side Jen air refridgerator. The vegtable and meat drawers are freezing food. The bottom half of freezer is cold, top half is not and ice maker not working. Took back cover off and evaporator frosted up, but the evaporator fan is not running. What is the problem?

2 things could be your problem, either the fan motor or the defrost thermostat. Here is what I want you to do. Unplug the refrigerator, and take the back panel off the freezer section, and cut the two wires, that are going to the defrost thermostat, about two inches away from the defrost thermostat, because if it is not the problem, You will need to wire nut the wiring back together. So once you cut the wires, splice the two wires that were coming to the defrost thermostat, and tape up, and then plug in the refrigerator. If the fan comes on, replace the defrost thermostat. If the fan does not come on, replace the fan motor. The defrost thermostat is located on the top of the evaporator coil. If you need me you can reach me at my web site, at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
