Default Fridge aint cooling and freezer aint freezing
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.51582200
Age: 5 - 10 years

My 5 1/2 year old Kenmore stopped cooling and freezing. There's no frosting going anywhere. It sounds like it is running. I can hear a click like the relay is energizing and the compressor is hot to the touch. I removed the relay/overload (all one unit) that was mounted on the side of the compressor and shook it. It rattles like crazy and tiny pieces of crud fell out.

I found a local place that recommended that I use a universal relay/overload to get me going. Its a Supco RO41. Anyone got any helping hints about the install?

Are these good units or do I need to go ahead and order the factory deal to use later on? I only paid $13 for the RO41 so I'm not out too much if I need to replace it. Anything is better than buying a new fridge.

The wiring on the RO41 is my biggest concern. I just want to get it right the first time.

Also, when you reply, please pretend like your talking with a 5year old.
I need lots of details.

Thanks in advance!

Huck

Anyone want to take a shot?

The instructions say to put the start cap inline with the white wire but the guy at the store said that I have a run cap and I should put it on the red wire.

I wouldn't think theres a difference between run and start?
