Question Freezer works, refrigerator warm
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: CTX14CATDLAD

I can't seem to have the refrigerator cold and the freezer freezing at the same time. There is a knob broken off on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment does this have anything to do with it. I can turn it but don't know what it's for and which way to turn it. All I know is it turns something on and off.

What you might be turning is the defrost timer knob.

If you see two screws with this knob in between them that is what it is.

The knob is not broken off that is the way the timer is.

With the compressor running turn the knob until the compressor shuts off.

The fridge will then be in the defrost cycle.

The defrost cycle will last 20 to 25 minutes.

If the fridge does not start back up you will have to turn the knob on the timer again to start the fridge.

Check and see if the fridge defrosted if it did you have a faulty timer.

If it did not defrost you have a faulty heater or bi metal thermostat.

Here is a link to your fridge model CTX14CATDLAD.
