Question Freezer works, Fridge doesn't
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MTB2156FEW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Okay--our fridge is just over 5 years old. Yesterday--there was a loud grinding noise that was brief, but loud. Afterwards--I could smell a burning odor. We unplugged for the night. Since then I called about it and they told me the typical--just for ice in the freezer, check the coils make sure they're not to dirty. None of those things are an issue. I have since plugged it back in and the freezer is running fine as before, but the fridge is not. Also I have heard on and off a click that comes from under the fridge. Any ideas? Thanks!

Where did the grinding noise come from?

When you hear the clicking noise is the compressor trying to start?

Check and make sure that the fan in the freezer is working.

Check the air damper in the fridge section to make sure it is opened.

Here is a link to your fridge model MTB2156FEW.

The grinding noise--I couldn't tell you where it came from--I was washing dishes at the time. The freezer fan does work and there was no ice build up in or behind the freezer panel. We plugged it back in the next day and as of right now it is running-- we have the freezer turned up a bit more than before (we used to have it on "5"; now it's on "7". And same goes for the damper on the fridge--same numbers as the freezer--5 to a 7. I've been keeping a thermometer in there just to keep on eye on the temp. So if you have no ideas--I guess we just keep our fingers crossed.

Is the ice maker working?

Keep an eye on it and see what happens.

We don't have an ice maker.
