Default Freezer varies in temperature
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a sub zero 642 refrigerator that is acting up. The freezer's temp. varies from 0 degrees to -17 degrees even though I have it set for 0 degrees. The freezer's compressor seems to run continuously. Also, the unit in the freezer that gets cold (condensor?) seems to ice up and stay that way. The fan motor is working in the freezer and frigde. Can someone point me in the right direction. I would really appreciate it, since I sprung for the big bucks to buy it Ive been broke. The unit was made in 2000.

Default

It is possible that the defrost cycle is not working if the frost is building up on the evaporator.

With frost on the evaporator the compressor will run for a longer period of time.

Usually with frost on the evaporator the temperature will go up.

Check the condenser coil and make sure they are dust free.

You may have a faulty control.
