Default Freezer/Refrigerator Goes Warm
Brand: Amana
Model Number: EED-191PK
Age: More than 10 years

Hi,
The refrigerator part and freezer part went warm and the freezer part had ice build up on the back panel in the middle of the freezer, the ice build up was about 12 inches long, but not very thick. I unplugged the unit for about 1 day, when I plugged it in again the freezer seemed to work okay, however, the refrigerator part got cold, but not as cold as it should have, considering it was set on the highest cold setting. 1 day later both freezer and refrigerator were warm again. There are some air vents inside located in the left hand corner on the plastic panel at the top of the refrigerator, these vents are not pushing out any cold air.

I would think this was just a blockage of cold air going into the refrigerator part, if the freezer wasn't warm also. The refrigerator hasn't been moved, this problem occurred out of the blue. Should I trash it, or can it be fixed at a reaonable price?

I think the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat

In most of the new units they now have the adaptive defrost control. It senses when to defrost based on how many times and for how long the door is opened. It's more energy efficient but there does seem to be lots of problems with the board.

I couldn't find any info using the model number you gave so I don't know which you have. Look here to find model number. Refrigerator Model Number Locator - Find the Right Part for Your Refrigerator with PartSelect
