Default Freezer OK - Fridge not cooling
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRS26ZNH
Age: 5 - 10 years

Manufactured June 1999 - original owner.

The freezer works fine (not as well, but is freezing moderately)

The fridge side is not cooling well.

I tried cleaning/vacuuming the coils from the rear at the bottom, but cannot get to all of them.

I've looked for this issue with my model here, but no luck.

Any ideas before I call a tech?

Thanks!

SHEILA (If you answer this...)

I did read other similar posts and YES!!!! There is ice build-up on the back wall of the freezer, top to bottom. What do I check/replace for my model?

Your fridge is not defrosting.

Your defrost timer is locate in the left front corner of the fridge below the freezer door behind the kick plate.

With the compressor running turn the knob on the defrost timer until the compressor shuts off.

The fridge will now be in the defrost cycle.

It will last 20 to 25 minutes.

After about 10 minutes check the pan under the fridge there should be water dripping into it.

If this happens you will need a new timer.

If you have an extreme ice build up you may have to run it twice.

If it does not defrost you will need a new heater or bi metal.

These are located in the freezer section behind the back panel.

The bi metal has to cold when it is check or it will read open.

You can check the heater either warm or cold.

Here is a link to your fridge model FRS26ZNH.

Here is the defrost timer.

Here is the defrost bi metal or thermostat.

Here is the defrost heater.

I Replaced:

1. Defrost bi metal or thermostat
2. Defrost timer

Worked great for about 25 days, now back to same problem. Will replace the defrost heater and see if that solves it.

I Replaced:

1. Defrost bi metal or thermostat
2. Defrost timer
3. Heater element

Worked great for about 25 days, now back to same problem. Now what?

The freezer still frosts over after about 2 weeks. If I turn it off and let it defrost (ruined groceries - 4th time now...) it works ok for about another 2 weeks. I see now that it's frosting again, so the fridge will start to warm and the freezer will stop freezing.

I've even gotten double replacement parts locally and no luck.

What else can be done?

Thanks!

When you replaced your defrost timer did you try the previously suggested test? Did the heater come on?

Did you run the test?

The parts that you have replaced are the only parts in the defrost circuit.
