Default Freezer not working properly
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: fz64p
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello, I have a problem with a freezer that belongs to an old lady, I thought she was leaving the door open which was causing it to frost up, so I have been monitoring it for her while she has been in hospital and its obvious that she hasnt been leaving it open! when you put any fresh food in then it does not freeze it, but it will keep frozen food frozen!, the motor is constantly running too if this helps, I would appreciate anybodys help on this, many thanks for reading ....Dione

It may be that it is not going through the defrost cycle when it should.

Where is the frost forming?

What is the temperature in the fresh food section.

Can you please verify the model number?

It should be in the fresh food section on a tag with the serial number.

Sorry I miss read the first post.

Where is the noise coming from and what kind of noise is it?

If there is a frost build up in a frost free unit it is a problem in the defrost circuit.

Locate the defrost timer.

It is either in the freezer near the control or a the back of the freezer near the compressor or in one of the front corner.

It is either black or white in color.

There will be a knob that you can turn on the timer.

With the compressor running turn the knob until the compressor shut off.

The defrost cycle will last about 20 to 25 minutes.

The heater in the freezer should be on and melt the ice.

If the freezer does not start up after 25 minutes you will have to turn the knob on the timer again until the compressor starts up.

Hiya again, ive pulled the freezer out and am looking for the knob, the round black unit sitting at the bottom of the freezer is very very hot, almost burns you when touching it andthe noise I think may be coming from this unit, its the noise a fridge makes whilst running, I can see a small square black unit at the back of the freezer and there is a button which I think may turn, the button is shaped like the one on a cooker when you pull its knob off, sorry about these wordings Im using, I swear I should have been blonde!
