Unhappy Freezer not freezing, Refrigerator not cold
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: TBX18KJB
Age: More than 10 years

Hello everyone,

I have been going over all of the similar posts concerning my problem with the defrost section in my fridge not working properly. I have replaced the thermostat on an impulse to see if my problem would clear up but it didn't. I then later put the thermostat in my working freezer upstairs overnight, tested it, and the circuit was closed hence working properly.

Next, I replaced the defrost heater and I'm still getting ice build-up on the freezer coils... The only reason I haven't replaced the defrost timer is because it was cycling through every 6 hours, off for 25 minutes, then back on again.. I thought that it was OK but now since I've replaced everything else, I'm guessing that the timer may still be bad.

I know that when the compressor stops and goes into defrost cycle, the heater isn't turning on and melting the ice. No power is going to the heater I assume and would that problem stem from the TIMER that still advances??? Please help me, I've already spent $90 on parts for this thing and another $40 would just be icing on the cake.

P.S. - It's the downstairs BEER fridge... It's Friday... Dire need for help..

Thanks everyone,

Mark

Default Update

I had let the refrigerator run over night and saw some frost buildup on the coils. I manually advanced the timer to defrost and the heater came on. I left it for the 25 minutes and the condenser came back on. I checked the coils again and there was still some frost left on the coils.

Any ideas? Ice Pattern is to the right of the coils. The heater probably wasn't on for long enough? Do you think the timer has something to do with this? The thermostat is brand new.
