Check for power to the compressor and condensing fan. If power but compressor not running you probably have a bad start relay. Pry off side cover and remove start relay, if it rattles it's bad, just replace it.

We just got a Kenmore Elite fridge and are having a similar problem.

I have posted in another thread as well. My question is if the fridge is powered on does it have enough power to work?

Our outlet only provides about 113 volts as opposed to the 120.

Does anyone know if this could be the problem why it is not cooling?

Thanks for the reply - first off.

The multimeter shows about a 112 volts so only a minor drop off.

Also I was able to find a bit more information about my particular fridge that states mainly it should be around 115 volts, but this is mainly to control over heating the line.

So far all is well with the replacement fridge - temp is staying at about 33 - 35 range.

I have the same problem, I took the start relay off and it rattled so I replaced it but I am still not getting cold air. The compressor doesn't come on but gets real hot. How do I tell if the compressor is bad or could it be the capacitor? I am getting 126 volt reading at the compressor.

You have a bad start winding in the compressor. I usually confirm with an amprobe.

Thanks Appguy, I found the problem about 11pm last night. The new relay was different than the old relay. The instructions said to put the wires in the wrong place. When I took the old relay apart I saw that the new relay was the same but was just in four pieces. I changed the wires back to original and the compressor came on. Working fine this morning. The new relay is not confined to the small box as the old relay, I guess this will keep the relay cooler.
