Default Freezer not freezing
Brand: Gibson
Model Number: FH23M5WXFD
Age: More than 10 years

I recently purchased a freezer off an individual that said it worked fine but he had it stored in his garage for about two years and just didnt use it. It does get cold inside it but not cold enough to freeze anything. I called the local repair shop here and they said that if it was an R12 that nothing could be done for it. Well apparently it is an R12 but I really like the freezer, does anyone have any suggestions as what may be wrong and where can I go to get it fixed???? I am located near the PA / NY border.

If it is an R12 problem, that means you have a leak in your sealed system. Compressor, condenser coil , evaporator coil , or all the tubing connection them. It can be fixed by a certified HVAC technician. It could be more expense than it's worth because of the possible parts and cost of the R12. I would check with another repair shop. If you can see the coils inside the freezer and they have an uneven frost pattern, more on top than bottom , that would mean R12 leak.
