Default Freezer and fridge warm
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH25SGPA
Age: 1 - 4 years

Coil clean, compressor running but barely cool. I tried to run the self diagnosis but could not figure it out. I held the temperature adjustment warmer/colder pads and it entered codes for another GE model I found but it did not take and went back to temp setting after 10 seconds or so. Someone sugested the ASM main control board is bad. Any suggestions on the self diagnosis function or possible problem.

If the compressor is running take the back out of the freezer and check the frost pattern on the evaporator coils.

If the frost is not on all the coil you may have a leak in the system.

Is there any other symptoms?

Here is a link to your fridge model GSH25SGPA.

Thanks for the reply
Compressor is running. Temp in freezer is 55. When I first noticed the problem I pulled off the panel and frost was only on the lower coils and now there is no frost at all on the coils and they are only cool not cold.

You have a compressor failure or a bad leak, probably in the evaporator. You might want to get repair quotes, but it will be very expensive.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. It's 3 years old and I think the compressor is covered for five but I don't know if it will be covered. Will it be in the 2-300 range if it's just a leak and the compressor is good?

How long did you leave it running like this? An evaporator leak will ruin a compressor due to it sucking in moist air.
If compressor is ok, evaporator replacement will cost around $300. A tech could determine if the compressor is good or bad. If compressor ok, might be worth fixing.
However, these refrigerators have the infamous mother board that likes to fail.
Knowing the sad history of these fridges, I would be reluctant on a repair.

It ran for 12 hours when it was only cooling to 55 don't know if thats long enough to burn it out and the compressor does still run.. Frustrating considering what I paid for it just 3 years ago. The last GE I had went for 15 years, also a side by side and all I ever replaced was a fan. Thanks.

If now you have no frost on the evaporator coils, your compressor may have failed completely.
