Default Freezer freezing up
Brand: Sears
Model Number: 106.723540
Age: More than 10 years

About a month ago I noticed that the freezer was not cooling properly. I remover the condenser cover and it was completely covered with ice. I allowed it to deice and then put it back together. About a week ago the same thing has occurred. I allowed it to melt again and then turned it back on and allowed it to cool off again. I manually advanced the heater timer control until it went into the defrost mode. The heater element heated up and melted the frost off the condenser. The timer continued to function and turned the compressor back on. The unit appears to be running properly now. Is it possible that the timer was stuck and was not going into the defrost mode? Any advise would be appreciated.

I have seen defrost timers and defrost thermostats become intermittant before. Best to replace both

Thanks. After watching the timer for a while I have noticed that it gets to a certain point and then stops.
