Default Freezer freezes up with too much frost/refrig gets warm
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MZD2766GEW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Refrigerator part stopped cooling so I checked the freezer part and found it to be frozen beyond normal. Opened up the cover and found a lot of frost on the coils. Could this be thermostat timer problem or a bad defrost heater? I searched on the site and coudlnt find a thermostat timer for this model. Please help!!

check , defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com

In your unit you have the evaporative defrost control instead of a timer . It senses when to defrost based on how many times and for how long the door is opened. It's more energy efficient but there does seem to be lots of problems with the board. You have to replace the board. Partselect.com - Maytag Appliance Parts And All Brands of Appliance Parts

Default Same problem, GE TFHW24R

Hi.
I'm having the same issues as mentioned (frost in freezer, warm refrigerator).
Nothing is staying cold.
What could the problem be? Trying to save what we can, so a speedy reply would be phenomenal!
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Also same problem with GE #GSS22SGRBSS. Ice cream soft in freezer. Refrig not cold.

The heater looked burnt so I replaced it. Couldn't seem to locate the timer, so still trying to figure out if it fixes the problem.

Suggestions on what else to try?

Thanks

In most of the new units they now have the evaporative defrost control instead of a timer.. It senses when to defrost based on how many times and for how long the door is opened. It's more energy efficient but there does seem to be lots of problems with the board.
Here's a diagram that may help. Appliance gss22sgrbss
