Default Freezer freezes constantly, drain clogged?
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 596.71814101
Age: 5 - 10 years

my freezer keeps frosting up in the back, and about 2 weeks later, i have to defrost it again.
i've replaced the freezer door seal, and i think i may need to replace the refrigerator door seal.
or, i'm thinking it could be the drain for the defrost water...how do i clean my drain, perhaps that is the problem?

It sounds like the freezer is not defrosting.

This would indicate a problem with one of the following:

1. The defrost timer.

2. The defrost heater.

3. The defrost thermostat.

Locate the defrost timer in the front right corner behind the kick plate.

With the compressor running turn the knob until the compressor shuts off.

The fridge will now be in the defrost cycle.

If the heater comes on and melts the frost you have a problem with the defrost timer.

If the frost does not melt then there is a problem with the heater or the thermostat.

You will need a meter to check the heater and thermostat.

The thermostat can only be tested when it is at operating temperature.

Here is a link to the parts of your fridge model 596.71814101.

Here is the defrost timer.

Here is the defrost thermostat.
