Unhappy Freezer cool, fridge warm, frost on back of freezer
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSS22VGMD WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi
Our side by side GE is not freezing the freezer side and there is frost on the back and the fridge is warm. From reading here would the most likely culprits be the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat?. I took off the back where the condenser is and the fan spins. There was a huge amount of dust on the circular object that was attached to the fan and vacuumed that. Are the coils accessed thru the freezer compartment? Thanks for any help.

The evaporator coils are accessed from inside the freezer. Remove the back panel.
If your heater and thermostat are ok the problem will be the adaptive defrost control. Part 801 on the diagram and parts list. GSS22VGMD Parts List
