Default Freezer cold at the bottom, warm at the top
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH25KGP
Age: 1 - 4 years

The temperature inside my freezer varies from 10F at the bottom to 70F at the top. The evaporator shows a similar frost pattern and the fan is not running. Is it a refrigerant leak or should I try to replace the freezer fan first? Thank you.

After running the fridge for few more hours I can now see the frost on all coils except for the topmost 2. I guess that's why it doesn't start defrosting as the thermostat is sitting on the topmost coil. So, do you think this is because of the refrigerant leak or faulty freezer fan? Thanks.

You have a system refrigerant leak, will need to get it checked out by a qualified pro.

Well, the pro didn't buy the leak theory, he replaced the freezer fan and the main board (beacause of burnt out diode) instead. The freezer seems to be working fine now. Thanks anyway although it likely cost me a bit...
