Default Freezer Coils Remain Frozen
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MZD2768GEQ
Age: 5 - 10 years

Freezer coils remain frozen causing freezer to not work properly or send air into fridge. Back inside panel removed and is totally frozen; manually defrost with blowdryer. Can this only be repaired by outside help?

Check your defrost heaters and defrost thermostat. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com

If they check out ok then replace the adaptive defrost control located in fridge.

Is there a way to check the adaptive defrost control. I am viewing it and seems to work as I checked the wires. Or must I replace it altogether?

If your heater is working just replace the control. It would take a electronics technician to repair the control board. There should be instruction manual under the unit at the front behind the grill to tell how to make it go into defrost mode to see if heater works.
