The freezer door was left ajar overnight. Since then, the compressor will not shut off automatically. It runs constantly and gets too hot to touch. If you manually advance the defrost timer the compressor will shut off. It will come back on again if you manually advance the defrost timer again. No ice build up inside and the fan is running. Could it be the defrost thermostat or defrost timer?

It is likely the control that has fail not the defrost timer or the defrost thermostat.

The control is number 8 on the cabinet assembly breakdown.
