The fountain came on by its self and would not go off, after pushing the buttons on the front a number 0of times it finally went off. a little while later i smelled a burnt plastic smell and took the fountain assembly apart to find the solenoid for the ice door was open and the solenoid was so hot it melted the plastic that it connects too. i want to know what caused this and what parts i will need to repair the problem.

The control board relay must have stayed on and caused the solenoid to stay on.

You will need to replace the board and the solenoid and if the housing is melted enough you will have to replace that too.
