Unhappy Fountain Heater ?
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MZD2766GEW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Can anyone help me? My Maytag Wide-by-Side went on the fritz a few weeks ago. I replaced the ADC board and all seemed to be working well. Now, I've noticed some frost build-up on the fountain dispenser. When I press the fountain housing, I hear some crunching noise like there's ice being formed inside. How do I test to see what's wrong? Do I have a bad fountain heater or bad control board? What's my next step? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check the solenoid for proper operation.

Make sure it is not sticking.

Defrost the door and make sure that the flap is closing all the way.

Check the continuity of the heater.

Here is a link to your fridge model MZD2766GEW.

Thanks Sheila. Can I ask a very basic question? How do I get to the solenoid and how, exactly, do I check the solenoid for proper operation?

Remove the drip tray and then the two screws in the trim.

You will then be able to push up and remove the trim.

This will give you access to the screws of the fountain assembly.

Place the slide selectors in the center of the fountain and remove the screws at one and nine.

Then you will have access to the solenoid.

Remove the solenoid and make sure that the plunger move freely in and out of the solenoid.

There may be some rust on the plunger.
