Question Fan in Freezer not Working
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MTB2156GEW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My Refrigerator has not been working right since I bought it. Approximately a year ago I figured out that the Freezer Fan was not running. It had power but the motor was not turning the fan. I replaced it, and then the Refrigerator started to work correctly again.

....About 8-12 months later...yeah you guessed it...The fan went out again. Is there something causing the fan to go out? It's getting the correct input voltage as far as I can see. I saw a similar thread about this already asked by ArtMaker who was frusted with this model and has had the same problem. There wasn't an answer to his thread that helped me. Thought I would ask again.

Can anyone help?????

The fan runs on a 115 volts.

If you were getting power spikes it would do more damage than just the fan motor.

I think that you just got a weak motor.

Here is a link to your fridge model MTB2156GEW.

Thanks for the help. That's what I thought it was after I checked out the Defrost timer, thermostat, and heater and they turned out to be good. The fan definitely has a 115VAC input.

Question: I've noticed that alot of people have this problem. Are there alot of weak motors out there in this series?

Anyways, I ordered the fan last Friday and it arrived this Monday and I noticed that I received the wrong fan. My schematics show 61005339 should be replaced and if you put in that part # in your search field PS108760 turns up. Well of course this was the wrong part. Are my schematics wrong or does this tie to two different series of part #'s? When looking at your link it turns out I ordered the Series 10 part instead of the Series 14 that has the blue and white wires. There were two fans listed there. One with a picture, one without. I guess I'm out of 3 shipping costs. Oh well. Lesson learned: Always look at the one with the picture and see if it matches the one you have.

I use a universal motor sm999 It is a much better motor than the cheap ones manufacturers like to use. It survives power line spikes. If you order it, you will have to splice the old connector to the new one. Also, if new motor runs the wrong way, you will have to pull the motor apart and reverse the rotor. Motor comes with directions to do this, or just ask the supplier.
