Default Evaporator frozen in ice.
Brand: Amana
Model Number: BG20T2W
Age: 5 - 10 years

Bottom freezer back panel frosted over so I emptied fridge and freezer to thaw out fridge over night. Worked good for two days then ice build up again. I cleaned all dust, front and back. Removed freezer backboard to look at the evaporator and saw the whole thing encased in ice. I emptied the fridge again and thawed for two days. Looking over the system I noticed a sensor connected to the evaporator heater, (I’m guessing it's the thermostat) the casing has separated so i'm guessing that its bad. Numbers on the sensor - 37TVF31 L55-36F 31045 104424-07 C9804. Is this the thermostat? Anyhow, I need help narrowing down the possible causes. A service manual would be a great help. I will buy a new part that looks bad, then will go through the process of elimination to find the problem starting with letting the system cool, then trigger the defrost system to see what doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas?

Default

Here is your parts breakdown
Maytag BG20T2W

Yes the part that bust is a thermostat. Should be 0 ohms when frozen and open at room temp. It shuts the power off to the defrost heater once the ice has melted.

Don't have a manual but here is a tech sheet
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/T12010R1.pdf

And here is a good info site for troubleshooting etc.
Refrigeration Help Section, Fridges, refrigerators, not cold enough, frost free problems and how to test, noisy fan motors, clicking on and off compressors, door gaskets
