Default Evaporator fan will not run
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KSSS42MA
Age: 5 - 10 years

The fan on the evaporator will not run, the compressor comes on and the evaporator reaches -7 degrees. There is no ice build up or clogs, extremley clean coils. the motor tests at 50 ohms at 1X, I hooked the freezer light to the fan power suppy but it would not come on. The fan power supply shows 115v when tested an the fan will work when hooked up to the freezer light power supply. Any ideas? Thank you

Here is what I want you to do. Unplug the refrigerator, and since you checked the evaporator fan motor, on top of the coil you will see the defrost thermostat. Cut the wires on the defrost thermostat, in a way where you can wire it back up if you have to, and strip the ends of the wire that you cut coming to the defrost thermostat , and put them together, and put tape around it and plug it in. If the fan runs replace the defrost thermostat. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
