Default Evaporator coil freezes over
Brand: Amana
Model Number: BX21VC
Age: 5 - 10 years

Evaporator coil freezes over then fig will not cool down. It is not the fan it works fine as soon as I manully defrost coil. Is it the freezer controll or maybe the defrost controll or something else? dan

The problem is in the defrost cycle.

Locate the defrost timer at the back of the fridge.

With the compressor running turn the little knob on the timer until the compressor shuts off.

The fridge will be in the defrost cycle.

Check in the freezer and see if you can hear the water hitting the heater.

Or you can check to see if water is running in to the drip pan.

If the coils defrosts the timer will have to be replaced.

If the coils do not defrost there is a problem with the heater or the defrost thermostat.

If the fridge does not start up you will have to turn the knob on the timer until the compressor starts again.
