Default Enitre unit shuts down for no apparent reason then comes back on 12-72 hours later
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KSSC48F
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Kitchen Aid built in side by side refirgerator ahs recently..over the last 2 months...taken to completely shutting down as if the power supply has been interrupted(even the light does nto come on). I checked the receptacle it is plugged into by plugging other things into it andit works fine. I vacuumed off the coils, flipped the on/off switch a few times, and nothing. I have made appointments to have it looked at twice, but each time it came back on, again for no apparent reason, and the repair man tdl me it was not worth it to come out because if it was running they would not be able to figure out what is wrong. When I explained to them what the problem was, they seemes as stumped as I am. When the refrigerator does work, it works great. No probles with the ice maker or with temperature. It does not seem to run hot. I am at a loss. It went out again late Friday morning and has not come back on yet..it is now Sunday morning...a service call has been scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) after 12 so I am sure that it will prob come back on again sometime before then to keep the mystery going...has anyone ever had this issue?? Please Help!!

Mike

I would love to help you, but you did not give a complete model #. Look in the refrigerator, for a tag. It is usually on the top shelf of the refrigerator, on the right side, or the left side, or on the ceiling. It is obviously a board. It has a relay that is heating up, and shuttin g the unit down till it cools of, and comes back on again. You could reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Tom,

The model # is KSSC48FJS00. It was manufctured in 10/2000. I took off the top grill and flipped the switch and it came back on. My wife opened the freezer door and it went back off, so I flipped the switch again and it came back on again...the relay heating up seems logical, but could it be as simple as a loose/dirty connection somewhere? Thanks for your prompt reply!
