Default Doors are rusting on the bottom
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 253.8589180
Age: More than 10 years

The bottom of the freezer door is rusting out (This is a side by side.) The fridge works perfect, but now water is dripping on the floor. I'm sure the insulation is saturated too. How to I fix this? I live in a small trailer and to put in a new fridge in it would require some major door cutting out.

By your model number I have found that parts are no longer available.

The only thing that could be done in this case is to fix it yourself.

Is the water running out of the door or is it coming for the bottom of the freezer?

Default reply to rusting on bottom

Hi,

The rusted bottom strip of the door is rusted. The gaskets are in okay shape. They probably might need to be replaced.

I'm assuming there might be an air leak in the door itself allowing air to escape into the door, thus causing the condensation. I guess I was hoping that there were replacement doors for this unit. Maybe I can rivet a strip on the bottom of the door. My only concern is the possible air leak and possible damage to the insulation. How would I go about fixing that then?

As I mentioned above the parts for this fridge are no longer available so it would be a matter of you doing whatever can be done to fix it.
