Default Door hinge pin
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 2 over 1 596.73509201
Age: 1 - 4 years

I have a black 2 over 1 Kenmore fridge. The right door has either a hinge or pin in the hinge that will make the door raise slightly as you open it and then will lower itself when it is closing or it is fully open. This creates an issue when the door is opened fully because it swings heavily out and hits a cabinet. I am trying to find a part that I can replace either the pin or the hinge that will not allow the door to raise and lower, just open flat without lifting. The left hand door does not lift.
My question is, is it the entire hinge, or just the pin that is creating this lift in the door.
I understand that this is probably how the door was designed and some engineer was paid a lot of money to make a door like this, but it drives my wife crazy and I want to see if there is a simple fix.

There is a piece in the right door called a closure that makes the door move up and down.

I am not sure why the left side does not have one.

The hinges are the same for the right and lift side but the bushing are different so you would have to replace the right bushing if you remove the closure.

Here is a list of parts for your fridge model 596.73509201.

Here is a breakdown of a Maytag made by the same manufacture as yours so you can see the component but do not use this to order parts uses your parts list.

If I replace the bushing I am assuming it will not take care of the issue I currently have. I do not want the door to raise or lower when opened. If I remove the bushing, will that take care of the problem, or do I need to replace the bushing with a different one that wont allow it to raise and lower? I do not believe that there is actually anything wrong with the door, this is strictly a modification that I am looking to do. Any thoughts?

Perhaps I should have called it the "closure" in the previous reply not "bushing" I just want the door to open and close flat, no lifting

The door closing cam is part of the bushing. You can file the part off that raises the door. Once you get the part out you can see how it raises the door as you open it. My cam broke and quit raising the door so it tore the door gasket and would not shut good even when pushed to. It seems to be a great little invention to me.
