I think this thread may help me with my problem -- my freezer gets warm (up to 32deg then cold again).

I checked my defrost thermostat/switch with a multi-tester set to rx1. When the stat was room temp, it read infinity. When it was cold (below 10 deg), it read 4.

I read somewhere that when it is cold, it should be 0. Does that mean it needs to be replaced?

Thanks.

You evidently sent a message to me as a result of my posted problem "freezer-cooling-cycle-became-warmer"

The specification for the defrost thermostat* is the thermostat will cut out at 55 degrees and back in at 20 degrees; i.e., an ohmmeter should read infinity above 55 and the resistance of the closed contacts at less than 20. I do not know if 4 ohms indicates a problem, but I do not think so.
A new freezer temperature control installed yesterday appears to have eliminated my problem.
* Part Select, Bimetal Defrost Thermostat, product information part number PS34890.
Good luck,
bybob
