Default Defrost timer location
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSS25JFPA WW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Okay i have read many posts and the problem I have is nothing new...Frost build up on the coils. I have tried to locate the defrost timer. I can't find the darn thing. I have looked every where. I have read a post that talked briefly about a board control timer instead of the old rotational timer. Is there such a thing and is it possible I have that instead of a dial. What I read was that there was some way to use the light switch to the freezer compartment and flickering the switch 5 times fast to activate the heeting coil.

Can anyone give me a clue where the defrost timer might be located on my refridge unit?

Yours has the control board, part 801 on this diagram. also scroll down for some descriptions of replacing board. Partselect.com - GE Appliance Parts And All Brands of Appliance Parts

If your defrost heater and defrost thermostat check out ok it's probably the board. Check defrost heater and defrost thermostat here. Refrigerator Repair Guide: How To Fix a Refrigerator - ACME HOW TO.com

Thanks. I read alot about a timer and could never find it. I know the heater coil works, tested it and it lit up once last week on its own.

Thanks! I will let you know how it goes!

The door switch 5 times in 6 seconds works for some Amana fridges (doing it a second time resets the board back), do not know about GE. You could try it and see if you can hear a relay click on the board.

Do you have a wiring schematic??
It may be on the back of the unit OR in a bag behind the kick plate OR anywhere GE felt like putting it. Quite often they do not include one.

There is usually a way to force a defrost cycle but it often involves shorting two contacts together at the board. Short the wrong contacts and you can blow the board.
