Default Defrost Problem??
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSH22KGREBB
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi,

The top shelf in both my fridge and freezer became very warm the past week, so I took of my back panel in the freezer and I found a massive frost buildup on the coils. I'm new to all of this, but I figure I have an issue with either my heater, thermostat, or timer but I'm not sure this model has a timer, maybe a sensor??? I've looked at some guides for GE fridges to determine what is causing this problem, but I haven't found any info on my model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lindsay

I took out the defrost heater and it looked blackened, but the coil itself was black as well. Is that normal or should the tube be clear? Where is the thermostat from the heater? I followed the wiring all the way up to the compartment where the fan is located, but couldn't seem to remove the panelling??? There were wires that came out from the panelling down to the top of the coils, but it was really frosted over and I couldn't see what was connected to the wiring? Would that be the thermostat? Still not sure about the timer, I looked in the control panel in the food section but found nothing?? I think this model uses sensors??
