Default Defrost heater coil specification
Brand: Please select
Model Number: mzd2766geb
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi, I wanted to test the heater coil for defrost on my fridge, I am going to replace the infamous ADC module soon, but need to know the OHM for this heater coil, I tested it and it returns 21 ohms, I am baffled, as they would be 55 watts, I think its tad too high OHM reading.

I don't think the heater coil is the problem at this time however I need to find out just to be safe and save shipping cost if I need to buy two parts.

My Maytag fridge is nice but I do regret buying it because it cause enough headache especially that defrost part. This is not the first time I have encounter this problem, probably 3rd or 4th time. I won't buy Maytag, plus whirlpool again and wont recommend anyone.

DHB

The heater is fine, just replace the adaptive defrost control, and then be sure you defrost the coil. If you need me you can reach me at my web site at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

Ok, what baffles me is that there is blue priint mentions about defrost thermostat, "for diagnostic continuity check 240K ohms", when I test it while it is frosty I get 0 ohms and when I warm the thermistat I get open line. Is this normal?

Of course I believe that ADC is definetly faulty one.

Yes. When the temp reaches a certain point the defrost thermostat turns the heater off to prevent overheating. When it cools off enough it will close the circuit allowing the heater to come on.

Update:

This confirms that ADC is the only problem. Just replaced the ADC and now my fridge runs like as if it was brand new. Man! very cold in fridge and rock ice in freezer!

Many thanks for this forum and other links which helped me point to ADC, rather than appliance service man!

It was rather very easy to replace, just that it takes time for me to locate where the ADC is located.

Im thinking of buying two more spare ADC so that I'd like this fridge last 20 years just to satisfy my value in investment.
