Default Defrost heater
Brand: Amana
Model Number: BRD18V2C
Age: 5 - 10 years

This is a freezer on bottom set-up. I replaced the defrost timer and the thermostat, but I still can't get the defrost element to heat up. Continunity is fine I think on the element (30-35) and when I remove the element from the two leads it is hooked up to, they test out at 120VAC so I am assuming there is power going to the element. The element is a metal rod (not glass) and there are no appearant burns, marks, or any thing else that would indicate a bad element. What is my next step? If I hook the element up to test leads on my work bench and it doesn't heat up, can I assume the element is bad? Everything I read tells me these types rarely go bad.

You can check the voltage to the heating element when in defrost. If no voltage, you may have a bad defrost timer, or a misswired wire.
