Default Cooler coils freezing
Brand: Other
Model Number: Blanchard Industries
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hey folks, I have a big cooler in my house that every 2 weeks I have to unplug it to defrost the fan and surrounding areas. I know when it needs to be done because the ice will get so thick in this time frame that the fan literally starts to hit the ice build up and makes a terrible noise.

I have had someone come out and they topped up the freon but 2 weeks later the problem was still there. They tested for leaks and found none.

Anyway, I found your forum and thought that maybe if I took some pics and showed you what was happening that you may be able to save me the cost of a second service call.

This is the cooler

This is the thermostat and probe

You can see that within 1 hour of plugging it in that the problem starts all over

The ice formation above the fan is where the ice gets so thick that it hits the fan

I left the shroud off to show you the pics.

I can't tell by your picture but if this is on the outside of the fridge at the back there must be a restriction in the system.

Has this cooler been in your home for a long time or did you just recently get it?

Thanks for replying Shiela. The fan and ice that you see are inside the cooler. They are on the top and in the center of the unit. I believe I have had the cooler 1 year(thought it was 2 until my wife proved otherwise) and it has done this since day 1.

The only thing that will cause this is a restriction or the unit is over charged.

You said that you had someone out and they put more R12 or 134a in the unit.

Did the technician see the frost build up or did you have it defrosted?
