Default Control of the refrigerator compartment temperature
Brand: Amana
Model Number: BX22S5W
Age: More than 10 years

Hello Sheila:

Control of the refrigerator compartment temperature

1995 Amana, 21.5 cu ft; mfr’s no. P1196701WW; bottom freezer.

Re. “bybob 9/10/09 to 10/9/07 - freezer temp control solved problem”.

It is now “the next time”! I am back again. This time it is control of the refrigerator compartment temperature.

We periodically have produce in the “Garden Fresh Crisper” drawers*, and on the shelf over the drawers that is frosted or even frozen. Temperature on the refrigerator top shelf is 38 – 42 F in the morning and 42 – 46 during the course of the day. However, the wireless temperature sensor in the crisper drawer indicates a temperature about 31 F … even after raising the refrigerator control from 3 1/2 to 1 in three steps over the last 4 days.

*The drawer “graphics” indicate that we have two “Garden Fresh Crisper” drawers with humidity controls, but no “Chiller Fresh System” drawer with temperature control. We did reset the controls anyway to their least humidity position … without effect on the temperature.

Again, thank you for your past assistance, and thank you in advance for a reply to this thread.

I would have to say the the damper control in the fridge section is not operating properly.

It is also controlled by a sensing coil.

Here is a link to your fridge model BX22S5W.

Here is the control part number PS192085.

Dear Sheila:

I am sorry to have taken up your time and for not responding sooner ... the reason is that after an additional 3 days at the #1 setting temperatures began to abate to acceptable values; i.e., the "drawer" came up to a range of 32-34 (electronic wireless sensor) with nothing frozen any longer, while the refrigerator range only increased from 38-43 to 41-46 (bimetal analog gauge). Nothing has spoiled as yet.

I will experiment further with further control adjustments at increased cold settings to see if I can get the refrigerator down to 38-43 again (electronic sensor) without re-freezing the "drawer".

And I will remember your advice should the problem not be resolved.

... until the next "next time"
