Default Compressor wont stay on, older freezer
Brand: Other
Age: More than 10 years

I have an old upright signature 2000 freezer,

it has been working untill today, now the compressor comes on for 5-10 seconds and then shuts off, it will keep doing this every 5 mins or so. I unplugged it and have no idea what to do next, it is not a frost free model.

I looked in the opening in the back of the freezer, and there appears to only be 3 main components, other than the tubing and wiring, one black plastic box on the left top of the opening, the compressor, and a box on the compressor.

I know this is very little info, I'm hoping it's enough for some to be able to tell me if it's the starter, relay or ?

Hi,

At best it's just a bad start relay or it could be a bad compressor.
If you have a meter you could check to see if any of them three connectors on the compressor are shorted out to ground.

You will have to remove the start relay from the side of the compressor to check it with a ohm meter.

If nothing is shorted to ground try a new start relay.

Thank you for the help. I'll check that relay.

Really?

I didn't think of that, would that cause the compressor to shut off and cycle like that?

thanks
