Default Compressor not running
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: CSX22GRXD
Age: 5 - 10 years

This frig is in a vacation home, so I don't know how it started, but what I found was a puddle of water when we arrived. Frig lights come on but nothing else. I unplugged the unit, plugged it back in, no difference. Took the back panel off to inspect anything visable, everything looks ok. Turned the thermostst all the way down, then back up, heard a click, and the compressor came on and it all worked fine for 2 days afterward. Simple as a bad thermostat? Some kind of safety thing? We go back in 2 weeks, hope its still cold, but if not, whats next? I am thinking of buying a thermostat ahead of time, just to have it. Part number? Thanks for any help.

It could have been the control or the timer could have got stuck in the defrost cycle.

When you turn the control to the off position and then back on it is possible that the time was jar just enough to start the fridge back up.

The defrost timer is located in the same area as the control.

Here is a link to your fridge model CSX22GRXD.

Do thermostats go bad very often? Are defrost timers more problem matic? Does it open compressor power while switching defrost heaters on? Where can I get a wiring diagram so I can troubleshoot with a meter? Thanks for your help.

Usually when the thermostat goes bad the fridge will run constantly.

The timer is more than likely the trouble.

When the fridge goes in to the defrost cycle the contact in the time switch the compressor off and turn the defrost heater on.

Your wiring diagram should be either in the control panel, tucked in the kick plate or stuck to the back of the fridge.

If the timer did get stuck it may not happen again for some time or it could get stuck again and cause the fridge not to defrost.

This type of problem can be hard to find until it happen again.
