Question Compressor does not start
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MCD2257HEB
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hi All,
I put some dry ice in my freezer that came with a package of steaks. I wanted to see how long the ice would last. I forgot about the dry ice, and about 4 days later the fridge/freezer does not cool. I hear an electrical buzzing sound coming from compressor when it tries to start. This lasts for 10 seconds then stops. About 2 minutes later this cycle starts again but the compressor never kicks in.
I've read lots of posts here and replaced the overload/relay but the same thing still occurs. Is my compressor locked-up and would dry ice cause that?

If you are getting clicking at the compressor and replacing the relay and overload did not fix it it is likely the compressor.

If you have a volt meter check to make sure you are getting 110 volt at the compressor.

The dry ice would not have cause your problem.

Here is a link to your fridge model MCD2257HEB.

Check your owners manual for warranty.

Sometimes the compressor is covered for five years.
